longat,,, asked:

How can I read guitar music, or tabulatures, or notes, or whatever they are called. I know the numbers represents the frets and the lines the strings, but there is something more. For example, when I launch Guitar Pro, above this are the notes, you know what I mean, black points. Some of them are longer, some of them are thin, how can I read them?

Tablature is music written for guitar that only tells you fret number and string, not the notes themselves or for how long you play them.

-5- The top line is the high, thin string
    -5-
    -6-
    -7-
    -7-
-5- Bottom line is the fat bass string

And usually before the music it’ll tell you what tuning to use.

Sheet music is different. The five lines represent notes, and the spaces between the lines are notes too. Wherever the head of the note is, on a line or in a space, is the note you play. The style of the note, the type of head, whether it has a staff or not or if there’s flags on the staff, tells you how long the note is held for. There are various symbols, abbreviations, and words that represent different musical techniques, etc.

Explaining them all thoroughly enough that they would all make sense to you would take a very long time. Do some research, dude.

First you should decide if you want to learn how to read sheet music or if you want to learn how to play guitar tabs.

Guitar tabs are good to learn songs pretty easily, but only go that route if you don’t plan on playing in a band with other musicians/instruments.

If you’re going to be in a band you should learn tab and how to read regular music, if you want a fast program to do that check out the site below.
